FIBEROCTOPUS FRIDAYS 2015
Recordings will be posted each week to this directory: http://fiberoctopus.com/audio/fff-2015/ I plan to post about each song on Facebook (facebook.com/fiberoctopus) and Twitter (@fiberoctopus), so either of those will be your best bet to keep up with the project (Twitter likely having the edge since Facebook often withholds updates unless you pay them). I'll likely upload the songs Friday evenings, and I'm on the West Coast, so for some of you it may be more like Saturday morning.
As for more background on this project.. I haven't put out much since 2011. I never really "quit music" but I guess I just got lazy. It's fun making music, but it can be very frustrating. Frustrating trying to write good songs. Frustrating trying to record songs that sound right. Frustrating trying to find an audience to listen to the songs.
So I drifted toward other free-time pursuits such as collecting baseball cards. Seriously. I've found card collecting to be more of a creative outlet than you might think. I've done several "arts and crafts" projects making and modifying cards, plus lots of graphic design (a.k.a. Photoshop fun), and it's helped me work on my "creative writing" by starting a blog about my collection. I even work on my photography skills by taking interesting pictures of cards.
But still, in these past few years it has felt like music and I have unfinished business. I've got a ton of songs in my head and/or in unfinished versions on an old hard drive. My hope with the "share music every week" plan is that it will help keep me focused on making making music a big part of my life again.
If you like a song, please let me know! Always makes my day when somebody tells me they like I song I did. And social media likes/shares/favs/retweets/whatever are of course very appreciated if you deem anything worthy. But I don't want to get sucked into the frustration of worrying about if anyone is listening, so I'm taking an approach of "fuck it; keep at it even if no one's listening" for this year-long project. It's gonna be fun. 52 recordings that could be anything. Some will likely be terrible. But hopefully a few good ones, too.
Thanks for reading/listening! Gavin |
